Rule # 1:    Always use a condom.

Rule # 2:    The first cycle use of the birth control pill does not give 100% protection.

Rule # 3:    Keep using  condoms.

The birth control pill is at this point the best overall method of contraception. In the majority of cases the triple hormone level pills give protection with minimum side effects and lowest hormone concentrations.

Rule # 4:    Regular Pap testing should begin when contraception is required.

When  birth control pills are first started, they are taken on the first  day of the menstrual bleed. Up to three period cycles are required to accommodate  to the new hormone level and to establish a 21 day bleed free time followed by a 7 day time in which menstrual flow may occur. Adjustments in the hormone strengths ( pill types) may be necessary if this ideal cycle is not achieved.
